When I was a young girl we often put a day or two aside to go to the Jersey shore , to walk the boardwalks or swim in the ocean. Sometimes my dad would take us along while he surf fished at Island Beach State Park NJ. It was my job to remove the crabs that hung onto his bait.  Island Beach is a wonderful place to be , the dunes are left wild and it is a better picture of how the shore should look like , sans all the neon and noise of the tourists areas.  In those days they were not so vigilant about telling folks to stay off the dunes. So we climbed all over them. On brisk winter days I often laid warm in the sun tucked into the clevage between the rise of adjoining dunes.  Of course, I know better now and find other ways to keep warm . Every footstep alters the dunes and weakens them against the waves.

Once in a while I would be surprised and delighted by the sighting of a fox! They were so beautiful to see in the sun , flashing red hair . They are a timid bunch and most of my views was of them ducking and running away , looking back over their shoulder as they hurried to hide in the holly.

I moved to Delaware and discovered the beauty of Cape Henlopen with it's tall wild pines and sloping dunes and I felt more at home. As I wandered around Delawares beaches I was happy to find foxes there too. Plenty of them . I inked this picture of a fox curled round itself sleeping. I do not think you would ever catch one napping otherwise. I included the holly , the shells, the pine needles . I put a lot of attention into the textures of these things and of the sand .  I am hoping to share with the viewer , how it feels to sleep warm in the sun , on a cold winters day , the scent of the pine needles and salt air in your nose.

Cozy and sweet.
